5 Benefits of Journaling

There are numerous scientific reasons to journal. Here are five benefits which I have noticed ever since I have started.

1. Brain Dump

Opening your journal and just writing down everything that is spinning around inside your head, will be a massive relief. The more times you do this, the more you begin to understand yourself too. This helps you to deal with the spinning-head scenario.

2. Stress Relief

Journaling can help ease your anxiety. We all have those thoughts, the “what if’s” and the overthinking, but if we write those thoughts down, it’ll help to ease the stress of our everyday lives. Sometimes, by simply airing that thought, it doesn’t feel as stressful as it did, rattling around inside your head.

    3. Getting things done

Writing a to-do list is familiar to many of us. The number of tasks that we keep inside our heads, is surprising. Imagine not having to remember all those little things and freeing up that space in your mind for more important thoughts. Plus, who doesn’t love ticking tasks off of a to-do list!

      4. Learning to be grateful

Writing down the things that we’re grateful for, can remind us of the little things in life that sometimes, we take for granted. It will help stir up positive emotions and enable us to enjoy those good experiences. People who write about gratitude naturally feel better and are more optimistic.

        5. Learning about yourself

When you realise, that from simply writing down your thoughts and feelings, you can learn more about yourself, you’ll want to write more. I preach honesty when journaling, and if you’re really honest with yourself when journaling, you’ll learn how you truly feel in various situations.

          Extras

I’ve only written five because I didn’t want to write a novel! There are so many more benefit to journaling, including gaining emotional intelligence, achieving goals, inspiration, tracking progress, strengthening memories, self-confidence and much more.

Journaling exercises that muscle (the brain) and that’s something we do less and less of, as we get older. Go ahead, do yourself a favour, keep your mind fit and journal.
