I celebrated a milestone birthday and reconnected with my family and some of my oldest friends.
This week I've been journaling about...
Friends – This week I got to catch up with some of my oldest friends, that I’ve known since primary school… and now I’m 50! I’ve known these guys for a LONG time. Writing about those relationships has made me see the value in them.
Family – I surprised my Mum this week and caught up with my sister and her family too. Dad came down for my party, I was just missing seeing my younger brother. He’s coming over at Christmas though (he lives abroad), so that plan is already in place.
Work – It's all about Boundaries. When you work for yourself like I do, work can often take over. Last week, it definitely didn't take priority and guess what... nothing bad happened!
I turned 50 – BIG BIRTHDAY. My party felt very self-indulgent, but you know what, you only do it once. I had the best evening. My actual birthday was spent 100% with family. Started with a fry-up, then went for a swim, had coffee and cake and then a curry – there's a food theme there and that is something I'm going to dig deeper into, in my journal.
Routine – After realising that I'd been neglecting my routine and that it was causing me to be unhappy, I got back into my old routine and it has helped so much.
Swimming – I went lake and sea swimming with my sister. It was brilliant. This is something I've neglected this summer, but over the space of the last 4 days, I managed 2 swims with my sis and it was bliss. The sea on Sunday morning was glorious... writing about that memory will ensure it lives on for longer.
Next Decade Ahead – I’m genuinely excited about my next decade of life. 50 feels like it gives you a sense of freedom; the sort of freedom that makes you care less about what others think of you. I love that kind of freedom.
Work – Back to the grind. Had 2 weeks off, first due to illness, second one was planned. I have written down so many plans in my journal, all I need now, is to invent the time to implement them all.
Summary - A much better week than last week, but then again, it was my birthday. I feel like the shift in returning to my routines, has really helped me feel happier. However, I wouldn't have recognised that anywhere nearly as quickly as I did, because I wrote about it.
Happy Journaling!
